FOOD PYRAMID AND OBESITY

Fact: From 1900 to 1980, obesity rates in the US remained stable at 14% to 15% of the population. Since 1980, however, obesity rates have skyrocketed. Today, nearly 66% of the population is overweight or obese. This spike is directly linked to the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) creation of the food pyramid, advocating 11 daily servings of grains and cereals. This is not a coincidence..... for more on this topic go to www.healthstrategiestoday.com and opt-in for my semi-monthly newsletter. This article will be coming out today to all subscribers. STRESS!!!!!

With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, we all seem to be a little stressed at this time of the year. There is so very much to do and so little time to be doing it in. Amazingly new research from The University of Western Ontario proves that stress has plagued humans for hundreds, and perhaps thousands of years. The first study of its kind, published in the Journal of Archaeological Science, detected the stress hormone cortisol in the hair of ancient Peruvians, who lived between 550 and 1532 A.D.
So now that you know your stress isn't new, it's time to take charge of it and make sure that you control the stress and not the other way around. By opting in to my bi-monthly newsletter you will get lots of healthy information on how to improve your stress levels and help to gain your optimum health. Beat Holiday Weight Gain

Just when you‘re finally getting your weight under control, boom! It’s the holidays and food is everywhere and plenty of it. Throw in the stress of the holidays – finding the right present, lack of sleep and your diet plans can go right out the window. But it is possible to keep the holiday food fest under control and not end up depriving yourself. Though it may seem as if the temptation to overeat is all wrapped up in those holidays cookies or that German chocolate cake, just being around more scrumptious food isn’t the whole story. One recent study indicates that, for most of us, the drive to overeat at any time of the year is governed more by emotion and sleep deprivation than environmental cues.
In research published in the journal Obesity, Heather Niemeier, PhD found that for many people, the seed of overeating is actually planted within their emotions. Further, they found that people whose overeating is triggered by emotions tend to have a harder time losing weight and maintaining weight loss. “When it comes to successful weight loss, our research showed that our emotions and our thoughts seem to actually play a bigger role than environmental cues – we eat in response to feelings and for many people, the holidays can drum up a whole treasure chest of feelings, both good and bad”.
In this respect, taking a moment to think about what role holiday foods play in your memory bank might help you overcome the temptation to eat. It is ok to have the emotion, just don’t try to bring back the good times or cover up the bad times with the foods you associate with those feelings.
With the holidays on us and all the rushing around and extra work load, many of us do not get enough sleep during this time and tend to eat to give ourselves more energy. This is the worst thing that you can do. During this time it is a good idea to take an herbal sleep supplement so that you will not end up with sleep deprivation.

Amazing new science breakthrough in health

Did you see 60 minutes this past Sunday? They did an amazing story of what the scientists are testing right now. It seems that there is a compound called ECM that they get from pigs that seems to regenerate tissues in our body. An example of this was a person who was without a hand. They used this ECM and took a hand from a cadaver and some bone marrow and attached it. The nerves and all the tissue attached and he is able to use his hand again - all without his body trying to reject the new hand. Another scene was from a soldier who had been his with schrapnel and part of his leg was blown away down to the bone. They used this ECM and now the muscles are regrowing. This has tremendous potential for repairing damaged parts of our bodies. Of course it also opens up a whole set of ethical and moral questions. But I found it to be very interesting. What are your core beliefs regarding health?

Do you feel that you will never be able to feel really good again? It seems that the doctors seem to think so. As soon as you have a complaint, instead of trying to find the root cause, doctors immediately give you something to alleviate the pain. But is that really the answer? Shouldn’t they also be looking for the root of the problem, while helping you through the initial problem? After all, a symptom is only the body’s way of telling you that there is something wrong. It means that you need to start to listen and improve your health as best you can. Isn’t it time that we start to take our health into our own hands and get ourselves into optimum nutrition before our bodies break down. If you want to be optimally healthy, you may need to revisit your own core beliefs. Have you inadvertently bought into the prevailing disease-paradigm? Do you realize that your state of health is mainly determined by what you put into your body, move, and think? Does it make you nervouse to know that you are responsible for your own health? Because it also means that you have the ability to respond in a new and different way, and take control of your life to a much greater degree than you’ve ever been lead to believe. . There’s tremendous freedom in this concept once you embrace it.. The key to good health is a strong immune system. After all the studying that I have done for these many years, everything seems to point back to the fact that the only way to remain healthy is to have a strong immune system. Building a strong immune system is done through evaluation and supplementation. . SEA VEGETABLES

Sea Vegetables

Why would anyone want to eat sea vegetables? Sea vegetables or seaweed offers the broadest range of minerals of any food, containing virtually all the minerals found in the ocean-the same minerals that are found in human blood. Sea vegetables are an excellent source of iodine and vitamin K, a very good source of the B-vitamin folate, and magnesium, and a good source of iron and calcium, and the B-vitamins riboflavin and pantothenic acid. In addition, sea vegetables contain good amounts of lignans, plant compounds with cancer-protective properties.

Some of the benefits of sea vegetables are:
The promotion of heathy thyroid function, Anti-Inflammatory Action, plus magnesium which may help get a good night's rest. Sea vegetation absorbs the vital minerals that are washed into the ocean and absorbs them as physonutrients in an organic and ionic form. Check out www.healthstrategiestoday.com and click on products to find out more about these sea vegetables.

Organic Labels

Organic labels just like the labels on the rest of our foods can be misleading. If it says 100% organic than of course the food is. If it says only organic that means that at least 95 percent of the ingredients are organic. If it says made with organic ingredients that means that at least 70% of the ingredients are organic. But what makes it really sad is that the USDA allows 245 non- organic addtives in "organic food". Sad isn't it how few foods are truly good for us.
